Why you should always be listbuilding — and 4 easy ways to do so
Let your website grow your prospect base for you without lifting a finger...
One of the trends we’ve noticed here at Phoenix Rising Consulting as we onboard new clients is that they are often not maximizing their ability to build out their prospect lists.
With the growth of affordable — and, in some cases, free — CRMs for storing contract data, there is NO EXCUSE for organizations today to have their contact data spread across multiple databases (or, dare I say it, Excel spreadsheets!). Moreover, many of these CRMs are packed with integrations (or API/webhook functionality) that will feed your data automatically into and out of your email marketing programs, e-commerce software, and more!
Of course, once you have your CRM set up and your data organized, you’ll want to continue growing your database with prospects and new customers/voters.
Following are four ways you can improve your list building efforts in no time:
Adding a newsletter or email signup form to your website: Many popular email marketing programs, including MailChimp and Constant Contact, have form builder features built into their software. By using these forms to collect the contact information of visitors to your website — even something as basic as an email address — you’ll be able to reach even more people the next time you send out a fundraising or promotional email.
Using a contact form on your “Contact Us” page: It sounds intuitive, but you’d be surprised how many websites only have their contact information listed on their “Contact Us” page and nothing else. People who visit this page are likely hot leads — and by collecting their information when they’re interested in your organization, you’ll have a better chance of converting them to a supporter or customer than if they have to reach out to you.
Entry/Exit-Intent Popups: Data-capturing popups are a great way to force visitors to your website to provide you with their contact information. You can use these popups — which generally are set to appear when you enter or exit a specific page — to encourage people to take an action like sign up for your email list, download a recent report, or volunteer for your campaign. Some website creators, like Elementor for WordPress, already have this functionality built-in. Otherwise, we highly recommend using a program called OptinMonster to create your popups; this easy-to-use integration starts at $10/month and is very simple to use.
Event Signups: Whether your event/meeting is virtual or in-person, odds are you’re creating a list of individuals interested in participating — so why not track these individuals and add them to your contact lists? We suggest using a program like Eventbrite to organize all signups for your event; Eventbrite can then sync your registration lists with many email marketing programs and CRMs either natively or through a Webhook.
