Master the art of the email newsletter with these 7 tips
Email newsletters can be one of the best marketing tools for a business. Here are 7 tips to help your e-newsletter stand out in a crowded inbox.
When used effectively, email newsletters can be one of the best marketing tools for a business looking to connect with its prospects and/or customers.
Unfortunately, too many companies do not spend the time to craft a quality newsletter, which often results in their message getting lost in SPAM filters or being deleted by the reader before it’s even opened.
In order to build an email newsletter that’ll stand out from the others, you’ll wanna follow these tips for success:
1. Personalize your subject lines
One of the quickest and easiest ways you can increase your newsletter’s open rates is by personalizing your email’s subject line. Recommendations for personalization include adding the subscriber’s name or another relevant personal detail to the template.
2. K.I.S.S. đŸ’‹
(No, not that kind… Keep It Short and Sweet!)
Time is money. Your subscribers are busy people and will generally only devote a few moments to reviewing your email.
Keeping your message concise and visually appealing (by using bullets and imagery) will increase the chances they review your full message.
3. A picture is worth 1,000 words
People DO NOT want to read novels in an email.
Instead, create a newsletter template that contains a balance of concise text/bullets with visually-appealing elements (images, infographics, embedded videos, etc.) to keep your reader’s eyes from glossing over by the end of your message.
4. Make your email mobile-friendly
Odds are high that your subscriber will be reviewing your message on a mobile device and not their computer.
Make sure your email template is optimized for smaller screens — including column formatting and text/image size.
5. Include a clear call-to-action (CTA)
EVERY email message you send should have a clear goal/message to it, whether it’s getting people to make a purchase, register for an event, or visit your website.
Make sure you include a clear CTA (ideally with a button or two) to encourage subscribers to take that next step.
6. Provide value with your email
Only include pertinent information in your newsletter that provides value to your subscribers, such as tips, articles or discounts. By eliminating the fluff, you’ll have a better chance of keeping the reader engaged and increase the chance they read your future messages.
7. Test, optimize, and analyze
Analytics and reports are your BFF! Make sure you are continually reviewing your email reports to see what worked and what can be improved.
Don’t be afraid to experiment with features like A/B subject lines, audience segmentation, or dynamic messaging, either!
